What’s so special about Pilates?
Pilates is a holistic system of movement and therapeutic exercise established by Joseph Pilates over a period of 60 years. It employs specialized spring-based equipment, as well as body weight, all designed to tone muscles, improve flexibility, and balance muscular strength at the joint level. This method of exercise promotes a number of benefits including:
A stronger and more flexible body, enhancing overall range of motion.
Improved balance
Increased circulation and respiration
Improved posture
Greater bone density
Prevents injuries
May reduce or even alleviate acute and chronic pain.
Improved efficiency, integrity, and movement of bodily systems.
Finally, Pilates promotes mental health by encouraging practitioners to slow down, breathe deeply, and concentrate on their movement, while also having fun and challenging their body in a mindful way. This mindful approach not only enhances physical fitness but also supports emotional well-being, creating a harmonious balance between mind and body.
At Northside Community Pilates, everyone is welcome regardless of their background or experience level. Pilates is a practice suited for all body types, ages, and individual needs, whether you are an athlete striving for peak performance, a dancer aiming to refine your technique, someone recovering from an injury looking to regain strength, or if you are just beginning your fitness journey. This method not only improves quality of life but also enhances overall performance and brings joy back to movement. We embrace the LGBTQ+ community, individuals with larger bodies, those living with disabilities, neurodivergent individuals, and people of all ages, fostering an inclusive environment for all.
As Joseph Pilates famously stated, "Physical fitness is the first requisite of happiness. Our interpretation of physical fitness is the attainment and maintenance of a uniformly developed body with a sound mind fully capable of naturally, easily, and satisfactorily performing our many and varied daily tasks with spontaneous zest and pleasure." -Joseph Pilates
